Just what does an Associate Chair do?

In the Electrical Engineering department the associate chair is concerned with the department's instructional mission. I am involved with scheduling classes each quarter, assigning faculty to teach courses, hiring TA's and assigning them to courses, finding offices for graduate students, evaluating student petitions for course substitutions, and the introduction and modification of courses. I am heavily involved in ABET 2000. Recently I have become involved with publicity for our department to tell prospective students why they should consider OSU.

Equally as important, let me tell you what kinds of things are not within my domain. I don't hire RA's except for RA's on my own research projects. I am not involved in graduate admission or the granting of fellowships or scholarships any more than other professors are in the department.

I'm interesting in getting input from students on suggestions on how we could do our instructional mission better. I've provided a simple mail link to me below. However, if you need help and someone else can help you better than I can, I will forward your mail to the appropriate person. Click here to send email now!
