Biography

Yuan F. Zheng received the MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio in 1980 and 1984, respectively. His undergraduate education was received at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 1970. From 1984 to 1989, he was with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina. Since August 1989, he has been with The Ohio State University, where he is Winbigler Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and was the Chairman of the Department between 1993 and 2004. Professor Zheng is an IEEE Fellow.

Research Interests

Professor Zheng's research interests include two aspects. One is in video and image processing based on wavelet transform and machine learning (SVM-based approaches). Current efforts focus on multimedia compression, object (including face) recognition and object tracking. The other is in robotics with current afforts on robot and automation for life science applications. His research activities are supported by the National Science Foundation, Air Force Research laboratory, and DAGSI (see the recent publications below).
