| | ASSESSMENTS |
| | Student understanding is assessed by a set of computer assignments (5 to 7, typically in Matlab) covering a range of topics as |
| | the course progresses. These range from relatively short projects due in a week or less, to a significant term project. The small |
| | projects early in the course are fairly constrained, but grow more open-ended as the course progresses. The major project is |
| | quite open-ended. (Example: Develop and test an image compression algorithm to meet some given set of specifications for |
| | some given class of imagery.) All projects require written reports documenting the algorithm development and experimental |
| | results. The final, major project is done in teams and requires an oral presentation before the class, as well as a formal written |
| | report. |
| | TYPICAL GRADING |
