Faculty Position in Photovoltaic Materials and Devices

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at The Ohio State University, in conjunction with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Institute for Materials Research (IMR), invite applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of advanced photovoltaics and related areas. The position is jointly administered between ECE and MSE with ECE being the primary unit. Appointment is targeted at the Assistant Professor level though exceptional candidates may be considered for a higher-level appointment. This position is part of a strategic, interdisciplinary cluster hire designed to blend with existing strengths in the electronic materials and photovoltaics areas of the IMR, the Departments of ECE and MSE, while leveraging the recent award of an $18.6M Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization and the recently formed Center for Energy, Sustainability and the Environment in OSU’s College of Engineering.

This position has a primary focus on innovative science and technology of photovoltaic materials and devices, including advancing the state of knowledge in the development of high performance solar energy conversion and related energy technologies. Ideal candidates should have substantial expertise in compound semiconductor device epitaxy (e.g. MOCVD, MBE), materials synthesis, device processing and characterization, with specialization in one or more of: III-V compound semiconductor photovoltaics, thin film photovoltaics, third generation PV concepts, or other III-V device technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous externally-funded research program, show excellence in all form of scholarly activities, demonstrate potential for leadership, and take advantage of the outstanding materials growth, processing, characterization and fabrication capabilities at OSU.

Qualifications: Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related field associated with the position description, and have a distinguished record of scholarship commensurate with experience.

Faculty Position in Electronic Materials

(October, 2007) The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at The Ohio State University, in conjunction with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a higher-level appointment. This position is part of a strategic, interdisciplinary thrust of multiple hires that is designed to blend with existing excellence in the area of electronic materials.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous externally-funded research program and show leadership and excellence in academic and scholarly activities in the areas of characterization, synthesis and processing of electronic and functional materials, while taking advantage of the remarkable materials characterization and nanofabrication capabilities at OSU. The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The qualifications for this position include a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) or a related field, and a demonstrated record of professional scholarship.
