Welcome to Our Department

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU)! This web site provides information about the undergraduate and graduate programs as well as research activities of the department. Continuously ranked among the best, the Department offers both undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate degree is Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (B.S.E.C.E.), with ABET accredited programs in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The undergraduate enrollment currently is about 900 students. The graduate program offers Master of Science (M.S.) and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a diverse student body of 320 students. We grant approximately 20 Ph.D. and 70 M.S. degrees every year.

Prof. Rob Lee

Our B.S.E.C.E. and M.S. graduates are recruited by major companies such as IBM, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, AT&T, Intel, Hewlett Packard, Ford, and GM. Some of our best students continue their studies in the Ph.D. program at Ohio State as well as other top graduate programs such as Stanford, MIT, Michigan, Illinois and UC Berkeley. Many of our PhD graduates hold faculty positions at other universities in the United States and overseas.

The ECE Department’s 48 faculty members and 14 researchers are active in the areas of Communication, Electromagnetics, Computer Systems, Computer Networks, Computer Vision, Control Systems, Electro-Mechanical Systems, Electronic Materials and Devices (EMDL, EMNLAB, NOEL, PDL) , High Performance Networking and Computing, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Mixed-Signal VLSI Circuit Design, Power Engineering, Signal Processing, Solid State Electronics and Photonics, and Wireless Communication. Our annual external funding is about $17M. Of the 48 faculty in ECE 17 are IEEE fellows and one is a National Academy of Engineering member. In the last two years, four of our faculty won the prestigious NSF CAREER award and many of our faculty serve on editorial boards of professional journals. Our research laboratories are housed in three buildings: Dreese Labs, Caldwell Labs and the Electro Science Lab.

While you will know us much better by browsing this web site, you are welcome to visit us any time. Our faculty and staff will be happy to answer any of your questions.
