Printing in ADS

Selecting a Printer:

1. Before printing you must select a printer. To do so in the file menu select Print Setup.
2. In the Print Setup window which appears click on Printer for the Output Format:.
3. The targeted printer is shown after Printer:. Several printers may have been configured (see list below).
4. To select a new printer click on Options.... Using the scroll down menu select the desired Printer Name:. Click on Cancel to exit the Options menu when you are done.
5. Click on OK to exit the Print Setup menu if you are satisfied with your configuration.
6. To print you can then either use the printer icon or the Print command in the file menu.

Printing Problems

If you do not see these printers, exit ADS, rm ~/.XprinterDefaults, then restart ADS.

Printing to a File:

To print to a file you must first select the filename. To do so in the File menu select Print Setup.
1. In the Print Setup window which appears click on File (Generic Only) for the Output Format:.
2. The targeted file name is shown after File Name:. Type the filename desired, for example: filename.ps.
3. Then click OK to exit the Print Setup.
4. To print either use the Print icon or select Print in the file menu. The graph is then printed in the project directory using the file name you specified.
5. To locate that file go to that directory:
   
   cd ee723_prj
   

   You can then view that file using:

   ghostview filename.ps &
   

   You can also print that file from ghostview. To print the file from a xterm windown use:
   

   lp filename.ps
   for the default printer. For a specific printer say DL557 use:
   

   lp -d DL557 filename.ps

Step for Adding a Printer

1. First start ADS:
   • source \apps\ads\Startup_EE
   • hpads
2. Open or create a new project:
   • File>New Project
3. Switch to the new Schematic window to configure the printer. Get the list of printers available for the particular HP you are logged on using:
   • file >Print Setup > Install >Add Printer > Define New Port > Spooler
4. Return to the Add Printer Window with
   • Add-Replace
   • Current Port Definitions desired
5. and save:
   • Add Selected
   • Dismiss
   • Dismiss
6. Verify the printer added are available using the Options (see Selecting a Printer)
