EE/ECE Alumni Society - Reunion 2009

2009 EE/ECE REUNION RECAP

What a good turn-out we had for the reunion this year and what a beautiful day it was! We had 41 alums plus another 30 or so guests of theirs, then an additional 8 current ECE faculty and staff members. If you weren't able to join us this year, hopefully we will see you at another event soon. Below are a few highlights:

Robert Williams (1959) and wife Jeanette (left) travelled from Roanoke, VA for his 50th year celebration! Also pictured are Enos Martin (1973) and his wife, Susan, who travelled from Coopersburg, PA to join the festivities.
Chakka Parker (2002, 2004) arrived from Texas with friend William Brown for the reunion and OSU v USC game. On the left is Hannah Driscoll, recipient of the IEC William L. Everitt Award of Excellence. Patrick Wensing, the other recipient of this prestigious student award, is not shown.
Dr. Burn Lin (1970) was the Benjamin G. Lamme Meritorious Achievement Medal recipient and talked about the future direction of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
Gene Sapp (1957, 1962) received the H.C. Ko Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to the Department as a student, staff member, and alum. Pictured left to right: professor emeritus H.C. Ko, ECE chairman Robert Lee, and Gene Sapp.
Left to right: Tricia Toothman (ECE outreach officer), Prof. Betty Lise Anderson, and Prof. Robert Lee (ECE Chair) helped make the reunion a big success.
Srikanth Hariharan explains his research poster "Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks" during the John D. Kraus and Alice Nelson Kraus Memorial Student Poster Contest.

The 2nd Annual John D. and Alice Nelson Kraus Memorial Student Poster Competition was held prior to the luncheon. Faculty and alumni voted for their top three favorite entries out of twenty-one total student research posters. The winners were: first place ($500), Samuel Rivera, Biologically-Inspired Face Shape Detection, advisor Aleix Martinez; second place ($300), Justin Kasemodel, Low-Profile Wideband Tightly Coupled Phased Array Apertures, advisor John Volakis; and third place ($100), Digbijoy Nath, High Speed GaN-Based Electronics, advisor Siddharth Rajan. Congratulations to the winners and also to all the other students who entered the competition - they were all great.

The EE/ECE Alumni Society annual general meeting was held after the reunion luncheon where Prof. Anderson presented information and project demonstrations on how alums can help to recruit students to the ECE program. If interested, contact Prof. Anderson directly and visit her outreach web page for photos, diagrams and instructions for each project.

Also at the general meeting, new members for the Society's Board of Governors were elected to replace a few people whose terms are coming to a close. New members include: Robert Borel and Dr. Steven Barnicki, while Thomas DeVore, Ronald Koch, and Gursharan Reehal were re-elected for three more years.
