Through a program entitled "Selective Investment in Academic
Excellence," the Department of Electrical Engineering at The Ohio
State University has won a major University award. This award will
support six new faculty positions in addition to regular new hires
in the Department of Electrical Engineering over the next three years .
Applications for five immediate openings in
are now sought. Outstanding
candidates in all related areas are invited to apply; all levels will be
considered.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering or a related field, outstanding academic credentials, potential for developing research programs, and an interest in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Each applicant should prepare a one-to-two page statement describing research plans as well as the significance and context of prior research. Four departments -- Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics and Psychology -- have been chosen as the first recipients of up to $500,000 each in reallocated University funds as part of the new Selective Investment in Academic Excellence program.
Currently ranked 22nd by the National Research Council (and 19th by U.S. News and World Reports), the EE department has been following a strategic plan since 1992 to improve teaching and research. With the Selective Investment fund, the department plans to hire six new faculty members to enhance research and teaching related to its key research centers and areas: the ElectrScience Laboratory; the Center for Electronic Materials Research; the Center for Intelligent Transportation Research; the Information Processing Systems Laboratory; the High Performance Computing Laboratory; and Wireless Communications Systems. The 6 new faculty positions to be filled include a senior position in the networking area. In addition, a junior faculty in the networking area will be hired to fill a regular position.
