Course Outline:

1.       Maxwell equations: time- and frequency-domain representations.

2.       Constitutive relations: isotropic and anisotropic media, linear and nonlinear media, causality.

3.       Boundary conditions at material interfaces.

4.       Wave equation and plane wave solutions in free-space.

5.       Plane-wave solutions in planar multilayered media.

6.       Doppler shift.

7.       Vector potentials and fields of simple sources.

Review of aspects of calculus of distributions, vector calculus, and calculus of complex variables will be interspersed to the above topics, as required.

Grading: Midterm 1 (30%), Midterm 2 (30%), Homework assignments (40%). Exam dates to be determined.
