ECE Hall of Fame: Xiaohuan Tan

Distinguished alumna Xiaohuan Tan received her PhD at The Ohio State University in 2006, with a concentration on control engineering and power engineering. Today, she is Principal Consultant at ABB Power Consulting in Raleigh, NC.

Tan has over 10 years of experience with independent research; providing consulting services on transmission planning analyses, including power flow, dynamic stability, voltage stability using various highly specialized research, and industrial programs. She was technical lead for steady state, dynamic, and short circuit analyses for various generation interconnection studies in multiple regional reliability entities and energy markets across the United States. She also led the national economic evaluation of potential generation and transmission projects to interconnect large energy sources, both conventional and renewable, to the major power grid. Dr. Tan is an IEEE Senior Member and a registered Professional Engineer in NC.
