ECE students excel at IEEE Student Activities Conference

Nine electrical and computer engineering students represented the IEEE OSU Student Chapter and won several awards at the IEEE Student Activities Conference, held April 16-18, 2010 in Philadelphia. Thirty teams participated in the conference, which included an ethics competition, physics competition, student paper competitions, robotics competitions, leadership training and more.

The nine team members representing the IEEE OSU Student Chapter at the conference were: Syra Arif, Andrew Baster, Eric Cheung, Jose Gutierrez, Tejas Kataria, David Leonard, Amritesh Rai, Kate Scherer and Tommy Summers. Eric Cheung is the Region 2 Upper West Student Representative and helped organize the team’s participation.

The award winners from the Ohio State team were:

  • The entire team won first place in the t-shirt competition
     
  • Tejas Kataria and Kate Scherer won second place in the ethics competition which judged the creativity and ethical soundness of the team’s solution to a presented ethical dilemma.
     
  • Amritesh Rai won second place in the physics competition, which involves presenting an analytical solution to a physics problem and verifying the same using practical means.

Winning students received certificates and Microsoft products and the ethics competition had a cash prize.
