Ohio State Eta Kappa Nu receives Outstanding Chapter Award

The Ohio State University Eta Kappa Nu Gamma Chapter, the honorary for electrical and computer engineers, has been awarded the 2009-2010 Outstanding Chapter Award by the Eta Kappa Nu Association. This coveted award is a mark of great distinction for a college chapter and is given in recognition of excellence in chapter administration and programs.

The Gamma Chapter provides a free tutoring service for engineering students, manages the Fred H. Pumphrey/Eta Kappa Nu Distinguished Teaching Award program, hosts socials for ECE students, faculty and staff; and participates in ECE department and university events.

The chapter provides free tutoring for all introductory electrical and computer engineering classes. Members provided a total of 407.5 volunteer hours of tutoring and assisted 896 engineering students in 2009-2010. This past year, the Gamma Chapter also offered a weekly study session for a circuits class.

The chapter officers for 2009-2010 were: Heath McAfee, president; Jeremy Vila, vice-president; Nicholas Host, treasurer; Irfaan Dar, recording secretary; Sam Cooler, corresponding secretary; Shawn Hall, HKN web correspondent, Jason Syu, Travis Case, John Saige, Bryan Skursha, Andrew Davis, Dan Twaddell and Tejas Kataria. Prof. Robert Garbacz and Prof. Hooshang Hemami served as faculty co-advisors and Prof. Ronald Reano is the faculty treasurer.

The Outstanding Chapter Award will be presented at an upcoming HKN awards banquet.

The Eta Kappa Nu Gamma Chapter recognizes outstanding juniors and seniors in electrical and computer engineering and promotes better communications and relationships between faculty and students, as well as among students. Membership is by invitation only.
