Over the next two years, The Ohio State University's ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL) is working alongside Applied Radar in a $1.4-million project to develop advanced radar and antenna systems for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).

Applied Radar received the Small Business Innovation Research contract from DOD, and has tapped ESL to assist on the research end.

In a world of defense increasingly focused on technology over ground forces, Applied Radar CEO William Weedon said the contract is designed to help the company stay ahead of the nation's adversaries. He said some research is being done in-house, with plans to subcontract testing with Ohio State on its phased-array antenna system.

The company is based in Rhode Island, where local newspaper Providence Journal first reported on the news in this article.
