As part of the Discovery Themes initiative at The Ohio State University, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering welcomed their newest joint faculty member this month.

Dr. Rongjun Qin joins Ohio State after recently conducting research at the Singapore ETH Centre Future Cities Laboratory, an interdisciplinary research center focusing on smart cities and urban sustainability.

His research interests include 3D/4D modeling, image processing, data acquisition and remote sensing interpretation.

Qin's faculty position was made possible through the Translational Data Analytics aspect of the Discovery Themes. The initiative focuses on critical societal needs, reflecting Ohio State's obligation as a public, urban and land-grant research university.

Qin earned his BS in Computational Mathematics and ME in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing from Wuhan University and a second B.Eng. degree in Electrical Communication Engineering from Wuhan University of Technology. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich with a major in photogrammetry and remote sensing.
