From immigrant success stories, to ongoing outreach and innovation, the 2017 Bits & Sparks Alumni Magazine gives a glimpse into the fascinating work and people associated with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at The Ohio State University.

ECE students, faculty and alumni contribute every day to the advancing field of electronics worldwide. Through academia and industry, they play a role in your cell phones, the cars you drive, and the planes transporting you home. Today, Ohio State ECE researchers are focused on pushing further into the realms of neural implant technology, bioengineering, next-generation communications, national security, and even environmental safety. Such broad opportunities has made ECE at Ohio State a top-ranked university across the nation.

This year, Bits & Sparks explores the journey of one student who went from being a refugee in a war-torn country to a proud graduate with a bright future. We talk to a family giving back to students in need across southern Ohio. Award winning faculty are also highlighted, and successful alumni give advice about the industry. Learn why one retiring ECE robotics legend was named the 2016 Innovator of the Year at Ohio State, or talk with students working to inspire children into STEM careers. Plus, enjoy stories about new research projects earning national funding to solve complex societal issues.
