Active electrical and computer engineering (ECE) student, Carl Staiger was another winner of the IEEE Power & Energy Society 2017-2018 Scholarship at The Ohio State University this week.

As associate chair of the Department of ECE at Ohio State, professor Betty Lise Anderson presented Staiger with the scholarship in his classroom at Caldwell Labs. She said it comes with a potential $7,000 total grant until his graduation. Other Ohio State IEEE PES scholarship winners are being announced throughout the month.

The IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative is presented annually by the IEEE Foundation to collegiate scholars at 116 universities across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. It recognizes highly-qualified electrical engineering undergraduate students with multi-year scholarships and assists in connecting them with relevant and meaningful career experiences. Since the program launched in 2011, 835 students received 1,382 scholarships at more than 170 universities, including Ivy League colleges, flagship state universities and prestigious engineering colleges.

Power and energy engineers work in some of today's top-growing fields, developing solutions to problems that affect society, including the new green energy vehicles, building the next-generation smart grids and working to develop sustainable energy alternatives.
