Johnson Awarded Endowed ElectroScience Laboratory Professorship
During an afternoon reception on April 23, 2019 Joel Johnson was announced as the recipient. His work is focused on microwave remote sensing of the Earth using radar and radiometry. His support comes from organizations like NASA, ONR, AFRL and Facebook.
Johnson joined Ohio State in 1996 after receiving his Ph.D. from MIT. He served as ECE chair for four years.
From satellite launches, to flying remote sensing instruments over Greenland and Antarctica, Johnson's research was highlighted as exemplary.
The endowment is the result of a generous donation by Dr. Burn Lin and his wife Sue Lin. Lin was born in Taiwan and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the National Taiwan University. In 1965, he came to Ohio State’s ElectroScience Laboratory and received his Ph.D. in 1970 after working under advisor, Professor Stu Collins on Holography.
