Redmill, Keith

Biography

Dr. Redmill has been with The Ohio State University and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 1999, initially as a Research Scientist, then as an Assistant Professor of Practice managing and teaching the senior design capstone program, and currently as a Research Associate Professor.  He is also an associate fellow with the OSU Center for Automotive Research.

He received the Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from OSU in 1998, and the B.S.E.E. and B.A. (Mathematics) from Duke University in 1989.  He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

Expertise

Dr. Redmill has significant experience and expertise in intelligent transportation systems, intelligent vehicle control and safety systems, sensors and sensor fusion, wireless communication, multi-agent systems including autonomous ground and aerial vehicles and robots, and control and systems theory. He has led or participated in a wide range of interdisciplinary projects, including a series of self-driving automated passenger vehicles. He led the system integration and vehicle control activities for the 2007 OSU-ACT DARPA Urban Challenge entry, the previous 2003 and 2004 DARPA Grand Challenges, and the 1997 National Automated Highway Systems Consortium demonstration. Other industry and government sponsored projects include autonomous ground and aerial robotic vehicle development and experiments, sensing and sensor fusion development projects involving computer vision, LiDAR, radar, GPS, IMU, and other sensing modalities, wireless vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communication simulation and application development, traffic monitoring and data collection, intelligent vehicle control and safety systems for vehicles ranging from small ATVs to heavy duty commercial trucks, remote sensing programs, embedded and electromechanical system design and prototyping, and process control development.
